The Sumo Wrestlers are coming to DUBAI

I'm thrilled to share this news with you: the sumo wrestler sculptures are coming to Dubai! A few months ago, I began receiving inquiries about various works. I felt that change was in the air, and now it's finally become a reality because we've just closed the last orders for shipment! Today, Dubai is the new capital of contemporary art. There's a strong focus on creativity, thanks in part to the fusion of Arab, Eastern, and Western cultures. It's a city of 4 million inhabitants, 90% of whom are foreigners, and art creates a bridge between different cultures. This is all what makes Dubai a contemporary metropolis. I like the idea that from now on, even "my" sumo wrestlers will contribute to building bridges of art because this is precisely the philosophy with which I developed my artistic vision: through sculpture, I explore the existential dimension of being, creating a bridge between strength and lightness. On one side are the powerful bodies of sumo wrestlers, representing the strength and heaviness of life, and on the other are butterflies, a universal symbol of elegance and lightness. You'll see both very soon in Dubai!

Art on stage at the MONACO YACHT SHOW

The Monaco Yacht Show took place from September 24th to 27th; for four days, the Port Hercules setting transformed into a showcase of elegance and innovation, bringing together 562 exhibitors and 120 superyachts. An unmissable event for luxury enthusiasts as well as for all those who love art and beauty: elegantly lined hulls, fine materials, and contemporary and refined interiors take center stage on these superyachts, reflecting the trends of the luxury market. The main saloon of one of the superyachts was embellished with an extraordinary sculpture in polished bronze: the sumo wrestler from "Al Cuor non si comanda" depicts a powerful body captured in a moment of inner truth, and the mirrored surface invites spectators to see themselves in the vulnerability of their own form. The warm tones, natural materials and light filtering through the large windows enhance the figure of the sumo wrestler, making the environment intimate and at the same time refined.

Sumo Wrestlers on exhibition at the Laura Tartarelli Gallery

Laura Tartarelli's Gallery is a hub for contemporary art in Tuscany. And right here, in her Gallery in Forte dei Marmi, she has chosen to exhbit some of Monica Foglia's sumo wrestlers. Among the sculptures on display you can discover "A ciascuno pare bello il suo": a dark bronze work with a mat surface that draws the eye inward, reflecting its beauty through colorful butterflies. This work is contrasted by "Chi non risica non rosica" a glossy dark bronze work with golden butterflies: the sumo wrestler symbolizes the rewards of boldness and captures the beauty that comes from taking risks. Laura Tartarelli manages exhibitions and events and promotes art to clients and collectors who trust her experience and creativity.

The Sumo Wrestler in the luxury oasis of Tuscany

A sumo wrestler in the luxury oasis of Tuscany? That's right! I'm thrilled to tell you that from today you can find the marble sculpture "Amor con amor si paga" immersed in the greenery of Masseria Gianna, a luxury oasis of Tuscany. This oversized sumo sculpture, carved in travertine marble, captures the power of the wrestler in a dynamic form. Surrounding the figure, delicate pink butterflies symbolize balance and transformation, highlighting the contrast between strength and fragility in the art of sumo. His opulent and powerful form dialogues and finds balance with the natural elements that surround it: the garden of Masseria Gianna, in Forte dei Marmi, welcomes the sumo wrestler and the swarm of butterflies and emphasizes their beauty while the sculpture gives a sense of harmony and serenity to the context. If you have never been to Masseria Gianna, you absolutely must go. It is the ideal place to bring together nature and the comfort of a holiday that can make guests feel at home. It is immersed in a large park but is located a stone's throw from the sea!

Spring is in the air

Do you feel it? Spring is in the air and the colors become brighter and more vivid. That’s why in the new sculptures you can find beautiful and colorful butterflies: they evoke fantasy of nature and symbolize the lightness of the soul. The sumo wrestler waits for the action to begin, his powerful, opulent body achieves balance between the elements embracing a swarm of vibrant butterflies that bring the air of spring. In the laboratory, the black sculpture “A ciascuno pare bello il suo” dialogues with the White bronze one, as if the sumo wrestlers were observing each other, don't you think? It seems that the swarm of color butterlfies casually landed on one or the other opulent body bringing a breath of lightness. My latest sculptures will be unveiled online very soon — stay tuned.

Looking for balance in New York

New York is the worldwide center of contemporary art. A city that travels fast, suspended between reality and (cinematographic) fiction, full of contradictions and constantly searching for balance. Balance is at the center of Monica Foglia's work “Anche l’occhio vuole la sua parte” (“the eye also wants its share”): this red resin sculpture, accented with bronze butterflies, blends strength and elegance. The bold red figure of the sumo wrestler contrasts with the light metallic butterflies, creating a perfect balance between power and beauty. His body, vibrant and full of strength, strikes perfect harmony with nature’s forces. The breathing of the sumo wrestler is steady and the time is suspended while the butterflies land gently upon him. The work “Anche l’occhio vuole la sua parte” is exhibited in New York at the Cosulich Interiors gallery and it’s a unique piece, such as unique is the beauty of this eternally moving city, where every day millions of people seek their balance.

RECAP: a look back at my art in 2024!

2024 is coming to the end and it’s time to recap this year’s activities. In this recap, I share the most important moments, which have made me more satisfied with my work and allowed me to share my art with you.  Art installation
As you know, I have been living in Monaco for many years but I’m in love with Tuscany. Thanks this, in spring, I brought one of my works to two different installations. In Piazza Carducci in Pietrasanta and in Piazza Fortino in Forte dei Marmi I exhibited the marble travertino sculpture “Amor con amor si paga”, created in collaboration with the laboratory of Massimo Galleni, a historic artisan workshop in Pietrasanta.
In a period of great tourist turn-out, passers-by were intrigued by these installations and - I hope - questions arose about the relationship between the powerful and opulent body of the sumo wrestler and the ethereal and delicate flight of butterflies.  Exibitions
This year I participated at the 7th "Forum des Artistes de Monaco", the most important exhibition for the artists who live in Montecarlo. This biennial exhibition, desired by the Prince's Government and organized by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, aims to support local artists and integrate them into the cultural policy of the Principality.
More than 80 artists present their work. I chose to participate with the work "La vie est Belle", a resin sculpture that shows the sumo wrestler an instant before the action. His body, powerful and opulent, finds a balance between the elements; his person becomes the horizon capable of welcoming a swarm of colored butterflies that gently land on him.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the organizers, who give visibility to us artists and promote our art.  Website
If you are reading this news you will have already noticed: the new Monica Foglia art creator website is online! Designed to offer an immersive experience to the user, the website opens a window on my world with video glimpses of my work and a storytelling on my philosophy. I invite you to explore my collection! While waiting for the first news of 2025, I wish you Happy Holidays!
